Amazon today has all-time low prices on Apple's 2022 M2 MacBook Air, starting at $1,049.00 for the 256GB model. This one is available in Silver and Space Gray, and both are in stock and ready to ship from Amazon today.

Apple launched the redesigned MacBook Air this past July, and it comes with the new M2 chip, a 13.6-inch LCD display, MagSafe, and an entirely new design. For the 256GB model, Midnight and Starlight colors are available at $1,099.00, which is a decent second-best option as well.

Additionally, you can get the 512GB M2 MacBook Air at a discount, available for $1,349.00, down from $1,499.00. This one is available in all colors except Space Gray, and it's another record low price on the 2022 MacBook Air.

No mention of the RAM - always the same on these posts - almost as if the 8G that its invariably linked to was something to hide...

You probably won’t see deals on 16 GBs until Apple makes it a standard default. Which means, not until they feel macOS needs more than that to run in addition to apps. Also, it’s cheaper for them.

I wonder: I'll be in the market for a new Mac soon. I assume they'll both be M2 when I'm ready to get one

MacBook Air (8GB memory, 512GB SSD) at $1,299.00 that will work very well for what I need for 3-4 years. It will also be lighter for travel, will have all the ports I need, and a nice enough (very nice) screen

Or

14" MacBook Pro (16GB memory, 1TB SSD) at $2,299.00 that will work well for 6-8 years, will be a little heavier (still not that heavy), and support an extra monitor (something to consider)

All the negative comments about the SSD and RAM every time this gets posted makes me laugh and cry in equal amounts.

I actually own a base M2 and it is just as fast as my M1 Pro 16GB/1TB MacBook Pro for just about everything I throw at it. Benchmarks can always highlight specific things, but they don't reflect the real-life experience of using them.

I had pretty low expectations of it after all of the YouTuber reviews, but I had the opportunity to pick one up at a slight discount and thought it would be good enough as a couch computer. I have been surprised at how much of a powerhouse it is. Sure memory pressure goes yellow and even red, but it never really slows down or gets annoying to use. Sure the SSD takes a bit longer for file copy tasks on HUGE files, but how often do you really do that? And is a couple of minutes here and there really that much of an issue?

if you need to run VMs, do heavyweight video editing, use large photoshops etc. don't buy it. It actually does those jobs really well, but you are better served by a more powerful machine if those 1-2 minutes of time are important to you.

For everyone else, the base spec M2 is likely to be one of the best personal computers you will ever own.

but that slowwwww hard drive config...
It is such a shame. Combined with the 8GB RAM. To remedy it, you have to lose the $150 saving, then add $400 on top of that. No thanks. News of the crazy temperatures the SOC is reaching due to poor thermals is another factor that puts me off. I'll wait until the 3nm process comes to this line.

Neither.

Get the 14" MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and 512GB storage for $1599. Currently at that price at Best Buy and Costco

16GB RAM is BTO only at Apple. The are no standard configs with 16GB RAM.

Edit: Actually, it looks like I'm wrong as you can get 16GB from Amazon in the USA. This isn't the case in other countries.

If base specs weren't so abysmal (thanks for nothing there Apple), or if the devices were upgradable, then these deals would be of interest.

I picked up the base M1 macbook Air last week on amazon for 799. So far it’s been great.
So sad I didn't pull the trigger on that one. You got a fantastic computer at an amazing price - congrats!

That MBP is so far beyond my needs I can't justify it; but every time Costco offers that deal I get all the way to the checkout screen before my conscience gets the better of me. :)

Hi there,

Hope it's OK if I piggyback off this, but I was literally eyeballing this machine yesterday. Looking at who I am and what I do I am debating between the M2 MacBook Air and the M2 MacBook Pro with the 13 inch screen and Touch Bar.

Looking for just longevity of device and use… Which one should I go for because they're only roughly $100 difference?

The best I can tell the only thing I gain with the pro is an internal fan and the Touch Bar, which I am OK with, but do not love it. What are your folks think? I saved 100 bucks or go in on the fan. I lose a slight amount of real estate with pro and gain an updated chassis with the air. Is that it? Thanks again.

Tempting, but I’ll need to go with at least 16GB of RAM.

I regret getting 8GB for my M1 MBA, there are times where the laptop just locks up or slows to a crawl whenever it starts using the SSD to swap.

I have to try and close a couple tabs I’m using and that usually fixes the issue because the memory pressure goes from red to yellow.

M2 Air or discounted 14" MBP.

Both are at least 5 year computers.
I agree! Unfortunately as much as I would like I think the 14 is out of bounds this time.

Are you choosing the Air based off of the chassis vs the older 13 pro, or is there another aspect I have not considered?

Thanks!

I kind of feel like you would know if a fan would benefit your workload. Get the 512GB Air, try it with your workload, and return it if you don't like it.

Still have my 2011 256GB MBA

Thought the disk was too small even before I purchased it. Filled up almost immediately.

Today? Holy crap, it's a joke, right? Apple?
