Amazon currently has Apple's 2020 27-inch iMac (3.1GHz 6-Core, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) for $1,399.99, down from $1,799.00. You'll see this sale price after an automatic coupon worth $299.01 is applied at checkout.

This is now the best price we've ever seen on this model of the 27-inch iMac, and it's likely your last chance to get the iMac shipped in time for Christmas. Amazon currently has an estimate of December 21 for most places in the United States.

Final price includes $299.01 taken off at checkout.

That is a great deal but a reminder to most, M1 24" iMac which uses considerably less power is $1299 versus $1399 for a 2 year old Core i5 10500 Mac for $100 more. CPUs are kind of compared here - https://versus.com/en/apple-m1-vs-intel-core-i5-10500 but in short, it's about 12% faster on paper

Unless I needed the 5" 27" display or running Windows virtualized, I'd go M1 @ this price!

I agree it is ridiculous, but as it is a desktop you can use the 256GB for macOS and your apps and then use inexpensive external storage for your data.

As for this model, it only makes sense if you must have native x86 Windows support. Otherwise choose the iMac (24") or wait for the upcoming iMac Pro (27").

Apple, issue an update to make it work in the Target Display Mode so that it could be used as a 5K monitor. Then we will talk.

The Timing Controller necessary to run the display at 60Hz instead of 30Hz prevents using TDM. Plus you would have to use both TB3 ports for TDM with the 30Hz TC.

At least we can AirPlay to it now.

Sadly, there's still people who will buy it thinking: "I don't need more storage than that...".
Six months later, regret hits.
I kinda get where you come from but especially with Apple devices I deliberately buy the lower storage option. External storage is cheaper than the upgrade options.
External makes sense for the (unlikely) case of your internal SSD dying, too.

I’m not saying that no one actually needs that much internal storage and, of course, I’m apparently extremely stingy with storage space (I tend to clean up and organize every couple of weeks).

When I was new to the Mac kingdom and was looking for my first one in '06, I shopped by price and condition (I could only afford used) and knew little about the comings and goings of new and obsolete models. Someone looking for their first Mac who doesn't live on forums like these would be tempted to grab one just because of the price reduction.

Then of course, they'll come here with questions ;)

Considering the hardware configuration this isn't a deal; it's robbery. The RAM and SSD have ridiculously low capacity.

I have done professional photography for quite some time; I would not store my archives on my primary drive. Also, you have little room for photo-intensive applicaitons.

I saw the new 24” iMac for the first time yesterday at Best Buy along side the 27” model and have to say the old design puts the new 24” in the shade as far as looks are concerned.

How accurate is it that you'll have to get an iMac Pro for 27"? No way in hell I'm paying that kind of money for an iMac.

I don’t think anyone can say how accurate it is - unless they’re working at Apple and have access to the upcoming product lineup.
It’s all rumors at this point but with the parallels to the last time the iMac was colorful, it looks like they may be simplifying their lineup and that would (to me) suggest that the bigger screen would be a pro “feature”. That’s just what feels logical to me, though ?‍♂️

Yeah, if only Apple could invent some kind of trap door (or maybe even a way to open the machine) so the user could alter their machine and be happy with it 6+ months after the purchase too. I mean, I'm not even sure what to call this dream feature, but some kind of elevation or improvement or upgrade?

Good offer if one cannot wait for the upcoming bigger iMac with Apple Silicon.

I am a capitalist and expect Apple to make money. However, I have no desire to be robbed or pilfered. This is an example of moving antiquated stock with the "deal" smoke and mirrors.

I have a 256GB machine from 2010 and no, it's not enough, even with external storage. It's insane how fast it fills up.
