Amazon today has a solid deal on Apple's latest iPad Air, discounting the 256GB Wi-Fi model to $549.00, down from $649.00. This $100 off sale is the lowest we've ever tracked for this version of the 10.5-inch iPad Air among the major Apple resellers online.

The discount is only available in Space Gray at this time, while other colors and versions of the iPad Air remain around original prices on Amazon. There is another sale on the 64GB cellular model, for $579.00, down from $629.00 ($50 off), but stock is limited.

Apple updated the iPad Air nearly one year ago in March 2019, with a new 10.5-inch display size, a Touch ID Home button, A12 Bionic processor, and support for the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard. In the entire iPad family, the iPad Air sits between the low-cost 10.2-inch iPad and high-end iPad Pro.

Considering the current MacBook Air was recently available for less than 900$, this is still incredibly overpriced.

My sample might be biased but most people I know that own an iPad either don’t use it at all or use it only for watching movies or browsing the web. Absolutely no reason not to buy the cheapest one.
This is also almost a year old now so it will probably be replaced soon (if they make another iPad Air).

Depends. For my parents yes they do use their iPad for the same exact reason that you have mentioned. However, they also keep their iPad for 5+ years. If I’m getting them one now it will be the newest because I know they are in the habit of keeping it for a long time. I think there is still value in getting newer iPad for the longer support.

My iPad Air 2 is aging, but I don’t know if I would replace it with a new Air. The regular iPad is a better value, and the Pros are more powerful and can be used for some things I’d use a laptop for.

I am still using my iPad Air 2 as well but the battery is starting to age and doesn’t hold much of a charge anymore. Been thinking the new 10.2 iPad would be perfect for what I use my iPad for and while I think the new Air price is fine, the Pro is a little high.

I went air 3 for my kids because it’s more future proof and they use them for gaming as well, no consoles here for them. They love them

I would not buy an a10 device new in 2020. That chip is from 2016, and it’s starting to show its age. And I say that as someone who still uses two iPhone 7s on a daily basis.

I still have my iPad Air 2, and I’m amazed how efficient it still is. I only use it for ‘work purposes’ for simple emails/navigation/Basic media, but it hasn’t shown any signs of aging whatsoever. In my opinion, this is one of the best iPads Apple has made over the course of its lifespan, but if I upgrade, it probably would be to the ‘Pro’ model, mainly I want the smart keyboard attachment that I would also find beneficial for one in the field, plus a larger display makes a significant difference in viewing content.

I still don't see the point of apples "air" tier of devices.... even the name hasn't made sense in years.

Are you on iPadOS? My Air 2 is much slower on it. It still works for the little I use it for these days, but the speed and the battery are lagging (bought it in 2015) and make using it less fluid than using my iPhone X on iOS 13.
