Last week during Prime Day, Amazon introduced a new all-time low price on the 2020 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Air. This deal has been unavailable since the event ended, but today Amazon brought back the record low price of $749.99 for the 256GB M1 MacBook Air, down from $999.00.

You can get the notebook in all three colors of Gold, Silver, and Space Gray at this price. They all have an estimated delivery date of July 21 for Prime members, and this sale has been automatically applied so no coupon codes are necessary this time around.

There are many internal and external differences between the 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Air and the newer 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch M2 MacBook Air models, but as an entry-level computer the M1 device should work great for common tasks, especially at this all-time low pricing. You can read our guide to get a better look at all the similarities and differences between the generations.

i'm looking for a laptop for my daughter who's starting jr high this fall. i want to get her an apple product because it's safer online, easier for parents to monitor and don't come with windows bloatware. this MBA is going on 3 years old, i'm sure it's still way over the top spec-wise for a jr high kid, do you still think it's a good buy compare to the newest 13.6" MBA which is selling for $1000?

the MBA is an incredible product imo. It is still way ahead of the curve compared to previous Macs/Windows machines in terms of perf/battery life. Main problem with it for me is the lack of GPU power, but I don't know what the new MBA has for GPU prowess.

Agreed I would add to this by sharing that I am still using my M1 MBA and I develop software for a living. I even use it for some small game dev projects on the side including using blender for modeling, admittedly for small projects. But still I think the M1 MBA is a highly underestimated machine. If possible I would go for the 16GB memory version, but it’s not a must especially for light use. It’s still Apple silicon so support will be quite long I would say. In short go for it.

Depends on what she is going to use it for, but I have the M1 Air and I can't even begin to bog the machine down. It's just as fast and the day I bought it 2.5 years ago. It's so much faster than my 12th gen i7 work laptop, and much better battery life.

I don't do anything hardcore on it. No gaming, and the only video work I do is edit my 4k gopro footage.

As long as she doesn't need a beefy GPU, she should be more than fine.

This will easily last her through junior high. Save the money unless you want her to have a little bit larger screen and better webcam.

*Like* The GPU is more than enough for anything you (or she) will normally throw at it - like Youtube or making an iMovie. The 16GB memory option is best though. iCloud means your SSD doesn't need to be 512GB or more as long as you can connect to internet via wifi or ethernet (get a cheap $50 power pass-through hub with HDMI for easy display on a larger screen and ethernet) and it's a damn fine package. And it's REALLY light and easy to pack around.

Curious to see what Apple does when the M3 MBA launches... will they drop the M2 in price and get rid of the M1, or will they keep the M1 as the ultimate cheap entry level option and get rid of the M2?

It's discounted because it's almost three years old at this point. People are going to be disappointed when it stops getting MacOS upgrades in about three more years.
As long as it’s still being sold new at Apple Store that means longer support.

It doesn’t matter when it was released.

Just because it doesn't get upgrades doesn't mean it just stops working. For someone using it to surf the web, write some Word docs, etc. this will last for years.

Using mine right now. It's my normal home computer now - email, surfing, documents, etc. It works great and I think it's a steal. Great price point and performance to get into the Mac ecosystem.

Although I've given the M2 range a miss, I do wish UK customers could enjoy some of the discounts U.S. customers can utilise.

Having used both I recommend this over the M2 Air. I actually prefer the older design. The taper is nice for ergonomics.
