Today is Disney+ Day, and to mark the occasion Disney has introduced a new discount on its popular streaming service. New and eligible returning Disney+ subscribers can get Disney+ for $1.99 for one month, after which the service will return to $7.99 per month.

To be an "eligible" returning Disney+ customer, you need to have no current active subscription with the streaming service and be 18 years or older. Once your first month ends, Disney+ will auto-renew at $7.99 per month unless you cancel beforehand.

To get the deal, create a Disney+ account or sign into your old one and accept the Disney+ Subscriber Agreement, then accept the monthly offer. This promotion will last until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on September 19.

It's also worth noting that this $7.99 per month ad-free Disney+ plan will be increasing in price to $10.99 per month on December 8, 2022. This is because the company will introduce a new ad-supported tier available for the $7.99 per month price point in December.

So, if you sign up for the Disney+ Day deal and afterwards decide to keep the service, remember that in a few months the $7.99 per month price will be increasing by $3 before the end of the year. You can also lock in an annual plan at the current price before the price increase in December.

Disney+ goes up in price on Dec. 8th. Hulu & D+ & ESPN+ bundles (both Hulu ad-free and w-ads) will remain the same. Disney+ will have the option to do ad-free on an annual basis (so $110/yr), but oddly enough, the newly minted ad tier won't have such an option.

You couldn't pay me to subscribe to Disney+

Best way to get Disney+ is to subscribe to Hulu when they do their $1/month promotions, then tack on Disney+ for $3/month. Just $4/month for Hulu and Disney+.

In the past week or so both Hulu and Britbox have announced raise in prices to go into effect soon. This time of year seems to bring increases for a lot of the streaming services.

I never had Disney or have seen any free trials here in Europe. I would like a free trial. Any tips?

I have Disney+ as part of a bundle.

Much like ESPN+ or whatever they call it, I never ever EVER watch it.

Originally I signed up for 3 years for $140.97. Such a good deal. Wish they would offer it again

I went ahead and purchased every Disney movie worth owning physically, so this couldn't be a bigger waste of money for me. Of course, even if you didn't own any of the movies, in the long run, you'd still be better off buying them second hand off Ebay or something than having Disney syphon money out of your bank account each month. Renting is a fool's game. Always has been, always will be. Buy the things you love. Don't rent.

You should check the price of your discs sometime. Disney films hood value. I sold my Beauty and the Beast DVD for $30 on eBay four years ago.

Never thought of the add-on via Hulu. Will look for that when my annual D+ sub ends
Just a heads up that there's a potential curveball coming up... Someone on Reddit says Hulu won't do the Thanksgiving/Black Friday Sale this year. When asked for a source or link, best he could say was it came up at a Disney executive meeting and the CEO mentioned "no" to doing this again. If true, then, that'll suck :( But at least it won't require you to commit to anything ahead of time. IIRC, that promo occurs around Sept. to Nov., while the price hike for Disney+ will be on Dec. 8th, so you'll be able to evaluate your choices when the time comes with more info. Another issue is they may yank the "add D+ to Hulu for +$3" option even if the Hulu sale is on (since you pay for it month-to-month, not locking it in for a year), but it may be worth taking that risk none of the less. Myself, I'm considering just doing D+ for a year at the $80 annual rate before it goes up (but will need to see if a couple of months is enough, or if a full year would even be warranted)

Also, for me and for that deal, it's pretty much just Disney+ since I tried using Hulu w-ads via that deal, and just couldn't deal with them. It's fine if your tolerance to ads is higher, or you're not going to use Hulu much anyways.

What's wrong with Disney+?
Disney is an evil company and I don't want anything to do with them. It's bad enough they pervade everything with my attempts to avoid as much as possible. Perhaps I think this as an adult, but I can say with certainty that consuming Disney media is at the bottom of best things kids (and people) can do with their time. Most media in general.

This, just isn't for me. It's still cheaper to pay $2 a month (or even $8 a month at the regular price) to watch a bunch of content, then hunt and peck for deals online for the latest movies. Nearly all the stuff I watch (99.8% really), I have no desire to go back to. As a plus, i don't have to deal with storing DVDs and other physical media. I have about a dozen+ DVDs and BDs. The latter I can't watch anymore since my new PC did NOT come with a blu-ray drive. Time is enough of a bottleneck that with streaming services, I don't have time to deal with those DVDs.

That said, there are some cult favorite movies for adults and kids alike. Having physical media on hand is a nice precaution against they stop being available in digital only format. Some like the extra features on DVDs, while others like HD and 4K that doesn't need to buffer (or otherwise eat away at data caps). For them, physical media makes sense.

Tell that sage advice to all of my VHS tapes.
