Amazon today has the 64GB Apple TV 4K for $149.99, down from $199.00. This price drop disappeared over the past few days after first emerging last week, but it's now back in stock on Amazon. Only the 64GB model is on sale this time.

At $49 off, this remains the best discount we've ever tracked for the 2021 64GB Apple TV 4K, and at this time no other retailer is matching the sale. As of writing, the Apple TV 4K is estimated to arrive between June 23-26 for most locations in the United States.

This is the version of the Apple TV 4K that Apple updated in 2021 with the A12 Bionic processor and an all-new Siri Remote. Keep up with all of this week's best discounts on Apple products and related accessories in our dedicated Apple Deals roundup.

Solid deal for anyone who enjoys Apple Arcade to complement the extra storage.

And yet Amazon.ca never offers any discounts ... so frustrating for us Canadian fans!

The fact that $150 is $50 off is ridiculous. It says 2 things:

-List price AppleTV is crazy expensive
-Wholesale price of AppleTV is MUCH lower.

I have 2 AppleTVs of various vintage (actually 3 including my hacked Rev1 which is in a box), and they are better than the Roku sticks and OS built into some of my TVs, but not 6x better. I gladly use the built in Roku and bring the sticks on vacations.

AppleTV is also a better interface than Android (blech) and Tizen or whatever is on our Frame TV, but not better enough for me to actually use it over the built ins. So my non-4k ATV just sits there doing nothing most of the time. Only our 4k in the bedroom with a very old Sony smart TV gets any use.

Give us an option to output unprocessed digital bitstream audio and I’ll buy another in the future. Until then it’s no sale. Would it be so hard to flash up a dialogue saying that Siri voiceovers will be disabled in doing so? The thing is totally hobbled for power users and is substantially overpriced even when it’s on discount.

I got the 32GB last week, also on sale. I'm late to the ATV party, but now I never want to leave. I'd been using Firesticks and Roku sticks ever since I cut the cord several years ago (RIP PS Vue, long live YouTube TV), but in recent months, I found myself having to restart them almost every single time. Not sure if they were running out of RAM or what, but they definitely felt like they couldn't keep up today's streaming apps.

The ATV is such a breath of fresh air. Zero lag time. Picture quality looks amazing (didn't realize how poor the Firestick renders 4K). And such a joy to use. I found myself watching more TV over the last week just because how much I enjoyed the ATV experience.

Even at these discounted prices, is it overpriced for what it does? Sure. And I probably wouldn't have bought one if they weren't on sale. But I'm glad I did.

I upgraded to the 4K from the HD recently. I do not play games but just watch movies and baseball and the news. ATV is a great device for these tasks.

When I add it to the cart it goes back up to 189

Edit: now I guess the deal is gone for good. Doesn't even show the discounted price in the Apple TV page

No doubt ATV is faster. But Roku sticks now have power buttons that turn your TV on and off if you power it externally or your TV has an always powered USB port. And the newer sticks aren’t as slow, though they aren’t as fast as the ATV.

ATV can turn your TV on just by waking ut up over HDMI if your TV supports it, but can’t turn off the TV directly.

I also like that I can use a third party remote with the ATV with lots of buttons and enter screen text on the iPhone, but Roku stick voice remotes make input somewhat easier now by speaking the letters outloud.

I agree. I got a used 64GB last year and I'm contemplating on getting another one for the second tv. The picture is night and day, processing is so much faster, plus it's seamless if you are already in the ecosystem.

If you're thinking this is a sign Apple is about to release an updated model, don't worry. It's infrequent (though not unheard of) for Apple to make recent purchases regretful ones. On top of it, supply chain issues mean a new model is unlikely, too. Even if a new model is announced, it's unlikely to be available in any quantity. (Just look at the Mac Studio Ultra.)

Both my Samsung LED and my LG OLED turn on and off using just the ATV remote.

Hold the Home button, the account-switcher-side-menu pops out in the right. Choose to go to sleep. That’s it. It turns the TV (and my eArc sound bar) off.

It also controls the volume. Pretty sure it’s all part of the HDMI-CEC (or whatever) spec. Apple has a decent implementation, but lots of people have different success using it depending on a few factors, such as the TV used.

I have a 32GB ATV HD, 32GB ATV 4K (og), 32GB ATV 4K (latest). I don’t use them for games most of the time. I’m nowhere near using the storage space.

A long time ago, I used to transfer movies and shows from my PC to my ATV and that would eat up storage. I mostly just stream now.

The 64GB fills up quick when adding Apple Arcade games to it.

64GB was overkill when the ATV4 launched in 2015, but now, especially with Apple Arcade, it only takes less than a dozen games before you start getting out of storage messages and losing Aerial Screen Savers.

The 32GB model is overkill if used for only streaming, but if someone starts playing games, they could only have a few large ones on there at a time, and have to delete them constantly to free up space. I am currently doing this with my 64GB ATV4K, and it is really annoying.

Prepare for a new Apple TV
I am hoping that a larger storage size is on it!

Good to know. An actual power button would be so un-Apple I guess.
