I am starting to find these frequency of discounts concerning.
You can look at it two ways. First models are getting closer to updates. Second Apple wants to stimulate more Mac sold so allowing more competitive pricing from 3rd party retailers. The more they can clear away unsold new in box older models the easier it will be pitching new Mac Models.

I don't know about concerning, but it makes sense given the nose dive computer sales took last quarter, and the anticipation of an M2 update for some of these machines.
Once Apple's update cycle for the M-series chips becomes more clear, I think Planning/Procurement departments will be better at managing orders.

The good thing about all the discounts these days is that if you wait a few months to buy newly-released Apple products you can often get a 10-15% discount, especially on accessories. For example I got the AirPods Pro 2 for 20% off just by waiting for a couple months.

Still a bit absurdly priced for only having 256GB hard drive in my opinion.
This. Any Mac with 256GB of storage and 8GB of unified RAM is something I steer family and friends away from. Because of my business needs as a videographer, none of these computers are any good to me, either - I went with 64GB of RAM and a 4TB drive with my latest MacBook Pro, which I wouldn't have done pre-M1, but the impossibility of upgrading drives and memory on Macs pushes pro users into a whole different class of computer costs. Apple needs to be careful with their pricing, especially with all this talk of recessions.

Lots of Mac sales going on lately. Clearing out inventory ahead of WWDC? Doesn't really make sense though because we're moving into 3nm before long with the M3. Hmmm.

There are always Mac sales going on. Even for newly released models.

Take the M2 Pro 14" MacBook Pro. 1.5 months after its release and it went on sale for $200 off

There is absolutely no reason to buy immediately as you can always get it for less 1-2 months later... unless you're a YouTube reviewer/unboxer or have a social media following and need to brag about your new purchase... which you'll then return within the next 14 days (presuming Apple doesn't provide you with a review unit). 🤣

No one is buying the M2 lineup. Apple hasn’t produced a single chips since January. They grossly over estimated their selling power.

We’ve been in a recession for a while.
A 256gb iMac shouldn’t be priced above $799.99 it’s below entry level. You get 1TB of storage on $379 all in ones by HP and dell… and you can upgrade those.

Probably a better deal to get a mini with 8gb ram and bring your own display.

I never understood the appeal of an iMac. Why pay for a new display when you buy a new computer? I have an LG 43UD79 that I've been using since 2018 and I still plan on using it for the next few years. I wouldn't be able to do this with an iMac.

It's for schools, front desks, and young adults who want to look cool. It's less practical, yes. But it has its appeal to some people.

I love the M1 iMac. Coming from a 2015 MBP as my daily driver, the change in speed was incredible. It’s more than powerful enough for my needs - organizing my music library and light audio/video editing. It’s a tad pricey compared to competitors, but it’s a premium product with quality materials, and overall well worth the price, even before sales.

Imagine spending this much on a computer with 8/256 and then also realizing it’ll be unsupported in another 3 years.

Exactly. I have SD cards laying around on my desk with more storage than that. It's pathetically small.

I had a 200GB HDD in the PC that I built in 2005 before I became a Mac user. Some people who were born in 2005 are adults now.
Yes. HDD.

Not SSD.

256 is still pathetically small, but HDD to SSD is not apples to apples.
