Today we're tracking a pair of discounts on MacBook Pros on Amazon, including the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro from 2022 and the 16-inch M2 Max MacBook Pro from this year. Both of these deals are all-time low prices on the notebooks, and are being matched at B&H Photo.

Starting with the 13-inch MacBook Pro (M2, 256GB), you can get this computer for $1,099.00, down from $1,299.00 (matched at B&H). This generation of the MacBook Pro doesn't feature any external design changes, mainly focusing on internal advancements to performance and efficiency with the newer M2 chip.

Moving to the 16-inch MacBook Pro (M2 Max, 1TB), this model is down to $3,199.00, from $3,499.00 (matched at B&H). This is one of the higher-end configurations of the new 2023 MacBook Pro lineup, and today's sale is the first time we've tracked such a steep discount on this model. As of writing, it's the only 2023 MacBook Pro with a significant discount available online.

Fine by me - I’ll easily take 1600 nits extended brightness using Vivid - I can actually use my work laptop outside in direct sunlight now, these are the best screens in any laptop out there right now IMO.

These discounts that we have been observing for a while now for the old and new models is telling. These products are just not moving off the shelf and reasons are obvious.

- Low hanging Intel fruit has been picked by the M1 and M1 Pro/Max.
- Economy, fears of recession
- Still more than capable Intel models still have a lot of life left in them. Common sense doesn't require you replace a 16 inch Intel MBP if all you are doing is Spotify, web browsing, dabbling in Photoshop or Illustrator and office productivity.

I still use my Early 2015 Intel 13 inch MBP as a night stand computer and it still does a good job.

Hopefully people keep not buying them... then they might become cheap enough for me to consider ^-^

A lot of people bought the M1 MacBook Air and M1 MacBook Pro during the pandemic years... from late 2020 through all of 2021 and into 2022. A lot of Intel upgraders and people new to the Mac as well.

Apple kept seeing strong or new record Mac sales throughout that entire period.

Q4 2020
1:46 pm: Apple did just over $9 billion in Mac revenue during the quarter, smashing the previous record of $7.4 billion set in the first fiscal quarter of 2019.

Q1 2021
2:21 pm: Mac December quarter record. Strong double-digit growth in each geographic segment.

2:21 pm: Strong demand for new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini, powered by ‌M1‌ chip.

Q2 2021
2:04 pm: Over the past year, 10's of millions of iPads and Macs have been deployed to help students and workers be productive from home.

2:05 pm: Mac revenue record. Last three quarters have been the best for Mac ever.

Q3 2021
2:05 pm: iPad had its best June quarter in nearly a decade. Mac set a new June quarter record.

2:19 pm: Mac, despite supply constraints, set June record. Remarkable that the last four quarters for Mac have been its best 4 quarters ever.

Q4 2021
2:18 pm: $9.2 billion revenue record on Mac, driven by strong demand for M1 MacBook Air. Last 5 quarters have been best 5 quarter ever for the category.

Q1 2022
1:40 pm: With $10.85 billion in revenue, Apple's Mac sales broke through the $10 billion mark for the first time ever.

2:05 pm: An all-time revenue record was set for the Mac, thanks to M1-powered devices.

2:16 pm: Mac saw strong demand for MacBook Pro. The vast majority of Mac sales are from M1-powered devices.

Q2 2022
2:15 pm: $10.4 billion for Mac was March quarter record, 15% YoY growth. Strong demand for M1-powered MacBook Pro. Continued innovation and investment in Apple silicon is shown in our Mac results. Last seven quarters have been the best seven ever for Mac.

There's absolutely no reason for someone who bought a M1 Mac to feel the need to upgrade to an M2 Mac. It's impossible for Apple to sustain that kind of sales growth.

Then there's the issue with Apple charging ridiculous prices for memory and storage upgrades. And certain M2 Macs having slower SSD speeds than the M1 versions is a big turn off as well.

These offers for the 13" model would be a lot more interesting if they had more than 8GB RAM. Apple shouldn't be selling "Pro" machines with that configuration at all.

I hope Apple makes a high end device soon without PWM. I had a 14" M1 Pro and had to sell it - loved the performance, size, battery life... but that screen caused me such eye strain and grainy dry eye pain that I went back to an older device that doesn't flicker constantly.
