Anyone shopping for Apple's 2021 MacBook Pro notebooks can save plenty of money this week on Amazon, which has up to $500 off select models of the previous-generation MacBook Pro. This includes sales on both 14-inch and 16-inch models of the 2021 MacBook Pro.

14-Inch MacBook Pro

First is the 14-inch MacBook Pro (10-Core M1 Pro, 1TB) for $2,099.00, down from $2,499.00. Amazon only has this sale available in Silver, and this is an overall second-best price on the MacBook Pro.

16-Inch MacBook Pro

Moving to the 16-inch MacBook Pro (10-Core M1 Pro, 512GB), Amazon has this model for $2,099.00 in Space Gray, down from $2,499.00. Compared to previous sales, it's a second-best price on the notebook.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro (10-Core M1 Pro, 1TB) is on sale for $2,299.99 in Space Gray and Silver, down from $2,699.00. This is another second-best price on the MacBook Pro.

Lastly, the 16-inch MacBook Pro (10-Core M1 Max, 1TB) is available for $2,999.00, down from $3,499.00. Amazon has this sale available in Silver, and it's a match of the lowest price we've ever tracked on this model of the 2021 MacBook Pro.

Notice how they don't discount the base model.

It's too similar to the 2022 model and will undercut its sales. 🤣
Costco has it for $1,599 until 2/10/23. It's out of stock online so you'll need to check what in-store inventory is like.

Normally, Amazon would have it for $1,599 to match Costco's price. At least that's how it usually went. But since Costco shows out of stock, Amazon has no reason to discount it.

There probably aren't too many of this model left in the channel since they were blowing them out during the latter half of 2022.

At this price and knowingly buying last generation you may as well buy an upgraded version since you'll also likely be keeping it a while.

Maybe someone with an M2 MacBook Pro can tell me why I'm wrong but I think the M1 was the sweet spot in terms of performance vs efficiency. Unless you really need to run intensive applications as fast as possible every single day, it's still more than enough.

Gimped by 16GB memory. Apple floods 3rd party sales channel with trash configs.
unless you have a bunch of tabs open and 6 software running like I do, I dont think its a problem although I would definitely get at least 32 gb next time around. I only got the 16gb base because I knew I'll get something like an M3 Mac mini or Mac Studio in the future for the heavier stuff and MacBook Pro can be the portable solution without all the apps open at once. but currently at 16, I do have to shut safari down to clear it from ram every week.

Shouldn’t these all be alot cheaper now that M2 is out?
Yes. I paid less in November for the 14 M1 Pro here when all the sites were saying it was looking like late Q1 at the earliest for M2 systems.

All these M1 deals conveniently disappeared for a few weeks when I was shopping, now that I bought the new M2 they all came back. 😒

Well, if it's any consolation, know that you have a more powerful laptop and the money will be forgotten soon enough. It might not make a huge difference today, but it will outlast the M1.

I suspect that future versions of MacOS will obsolete out by processor class many years from now, i.e. M1 will be dropped one year, then M2 after that etc.

You mean 2021 model. That base model has been discounted to $1599 for most of the past 6 months. The 2023 base actually comes with the 10/16 core cpu/gpu vs the 8/14 in the 2021 model. Coupled with the HDMI/Wifi upgrades and the M2 Pro with its processing improvements and longer battery life it's a great upgrade for someone with a years old MBP.
