Today is the launch day of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, and we're already tracking the first discounts on both wearables. Available at Amazon, you can get $9 off the Apple Watch Series 9 and $19 off the Apple Watch Ultra 2, with no coupon code required.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with some of these vendors. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

Although not particularly steep discounts, given that it's launch day these are pretty solid deals for anyone who planned on picking up one of the new Apple Watch models today. If you want a bigger markdown, and are okay with buying a previous generation device, Amazon has the original Apple Watch Ultra at $99 off in select colors right now.

A few of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 models are temporarily out of stock right now, but Amazon notes that you can place your order at the discounted price and they will email you when they have an estimated delivery date. Otherwise, most models of both the Ultra 2 and Series 9 will deliver between September 24 and September 27.

For me, mobile tech has really matured.

Increasing base prices on what is essentially 5 year old tech isn’t a deal. It’s robbery.
Some battery life. New cable. For $2000 you gonna have to literally revamp the whole thing. Take some risks.
As a person who used to upgrade annually and has had every iPhone from the 3GS -> 13 pro max (barring the iP11, and I used to by the plus and small versions) I feel like unless Apple do something crazy awesome the days of people upgrading even every three years, is numbered. It’s really stale and really expensive.

There is a much better deal available. AT&T is offering $300 off (via monthly credits) any two Apple Watch cellular models. The catch is that you have to buy them on a 36 month installment plan and have to have their $10/mo cell service on both watches during that 36 months. One of them had to be a “new line” meaning not transferring service from one watch to another.

Although this is more expensive than buying non-cellular watches, if you want cellular service anyways then this is a good deal. Other carriers might be offering similar.

Base Prices have actually decreased compared to 5 years ago, almost everything has increased by 30-40% from 5 years ago due to inflation.
Apples prices have stayed the same, which means in real terms they're 30-40% cheaper, taking inflation into account.
That's just a fact!

I would highly suggest if you have any any chance of returning it, that you do not buy it at Amazon. They take 30 to 45 days to refund your money. The last watch ultra, I sent back landed in their warehouse and they never checked it in so I had to make numerous phone calls to get my money back. Literally one of the worst places to buy apple products if you have any inclination that it might not work out for you.

And you call that a deal???

And you call that a deal???
Yes, for me. I already said it’s only a deal in the right situation. I was going to spend that money anyways. Why wouldn’t I want to save $300 by buying through AT&T vs buying somewhere else?

Is that so hard for you to understand?

Any “deal” where you get carrier credits over 36 months is not a deal. They make that money off you during that time… but do as you wish, for me it is NOT a deal.

If you add in Apple CC and the 3% you get on the Apple Store it would pretty much come out the same. 2% more cash back on Apple store is = ~$16 on A $799 Ultra. But if you have Amazon Prime Chase card, it is 5% back on buying it on Amazon so it is a huge jump in savings buying it on Amazon with $19 + ~8 * 5 ($40) if you consider these two options and have these cards.

almost everything has increased by 30-40% from 5 years ago due to inflation.

Accumulated inflation in the CPI over those 5 years was just a bit over 22% — not 30-40%.

See https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

Furthermore, that’s the *average* rate, so likely about half items went up less than that — and maybe far more, given that certain big ticket items can fuel inflation and raise the average rate.

In other words, hardly “almost everything”!

Still, I agree with your basic point, although I’d want to compare what, say, $1,000 or $2,000 could buy in Apple goodies in, say, 2013 with what it buys now.

My sense is that $1,000 today buys a lot better tech than it did five years or a decade ago. But we’d need the data and specs to confirm that!

In any case, just wanted to post some actual data on inflation!

Actually the opposite. If I bought the watches outright, I would pay exactly the same price, plus $300 upfront for the devices, plus the monthly service fee. I already said twice that this is only a deal if you were going to pay for the monthly service anyways. AT&T is effectively giving me an interest free loan PLUS a $300 discount on that loan. I'm the one that can invest that money in the meantime and make interest / gains on it.

Read what I wrote, not what you assume that I meant.

Got my ultra for a pretty sweet deal. Traded in series 8 watch for $190 credit, Purchased a Macbook Pro, and got a $150 gift card with a student discount. Used my veterans discount to purchase the Ultra 2 which knocked off another $90. I had $117 cashback from using my Apple card to purchase said MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. So I paid $253 for the watch before taxes.

There is a promo code when paying with the Best Buy credit card. Saves you 10%.
You also get 5% cash back with the purchase so I bought the ultra 2. $80 off and $35 cash back.
Also got free applecare+ because I have BB total tech service.
Would you mind sharing the code? Hoping to get a ss9. I tried the one I got but bb kept saying "Sorry, we didn’t recognize this promo code. Please make sure it’s valid and not an in-store only promo." Thank you!

With cellular on the watches, does ATT include a phone number with the cellular service for inbound calls (asking for a friend)?? 😳🤣

Yes. The watch gets assigned a phone number. That’s why they consider watch cellular service a “line”. You get phone, text and data service for $10 + $3.5 taxes & fees = $13.5 / mo.

If you have your iPhone device with AT&T also, then you use NumberSync to have your watch share your phone’s number. In that case the watch’s phone number becomes unreachable and you are using your phone number for the watch and iPhone.

I also bought a watch for my daughter that is too young for a phone. Her watch has a phone number and I manage her watch from my phone using Family Setup. In that case her watch keeps its phone number instead of sharing with a phone.
