Adorama this week has Apple's Magic Trackpad 2 for $89.99 in white, down from $129.99. This price is a match of the previous all-time low price on the accessory, which we last tracked at Woot earlier in July.

Are these available in silver anymore? All I've seen is white and black - I could have sworn there were silver ones at some point...

Edit: As far as I can see, the only silver ones are the older versions.

And I'm growing more embarrassed that I paid for one. Wow...

I refuse to pay their current ransom for a keyboard. 'HOW MUCH? SERIOUSLY?'

Typically I dont like to buy something like used KB and mice but here made an exception and have no qualms about it.

got a black Magic Mouse 2 for like $25 a couple years ago on Craigslist, added Magic Grips for ergonomics, chlorox'd the hell out of it and called it a day. Battery still holds a solid charge.

Got a magic keyboard (non numeric keypad, the compact one) with all keys working in really good shape, battery holds a good charge, for $24 on eBay, chlorox'd it like crazy too.

$49 for both, well under $200+tax for both.

$200+tax for a single keyboard is insane - even with numeric keypad and touchID. I couldn't do it, even if I had enough money to make it rain off a helicopter.
Imagine $329+Tax for the numeric keypad/touchID keyboard and this trackpad. LULZ!

Same here. I used the first-generation Magic Trackpad for a few months, then gave up on it. I can see how it might appeal to some folks, but it just wasn't for me. I definitely wasted my money.

And after my Apple wireless keyboard died after a year of use, I bought a Logitech K380 wireless keyboard that cost a third of the price of Apple's keyboard. That was three years ago; I've only replaced the batteries once, and the performance remains rock-solid.

If you're in Adobe apps the scrolling across your artboard with the trackpad is fantastic, or scrubbing in video apps, along with pinch and zoom. I miss it when I am using just a keyboard and mouse. The Magic Mouse is great but there's something better about it on the trackpad.

So now you can add me to the list of people with both a mouse and trackpad combo, I am the person buying this.

I cant believe Apple charges $130 for these things regularly. that's insanity!
I’m in two minds on this.
They are excellent devices and I often choose mine over a mouse - but at the same time they really are quite expensive.

But hey, at least I can say that they’re excellent, because I couldn’t say that of the Magic Mouse. That one I found awful, even without considering the charging situation on it.
And I refuse to pay their prices for the keyboards. My partner bought an iMac and the keyboard is… let’s say it’s not my cup of tea :p

I only have one of those expensive suckers, and the user experience has been 'awkward'?

I use it on the tray built in to my trainer so I can interact with the app I use. It used to fall off the try, so I leave it plugged in and at least have a leash to drag it back to post. (I put a piece of 'Gekko-skin on the back, and it slides a heck of a lot less) The other problem is that I sweat 'a lot', and if I get any sweat on the pad, it freaks out. I lose control, and have occasionally had errant selections while riding. It's really a PITA when it happens. I thought of using a mouse, but the sweat would likely puddle on any mouse pad, and cause hydroplaning and gunk up the whole thing. I can't think of a better solution. I don't use the trackpad 'a lot' during rides, but it comes and goes. Sometimes I have to use it quite a bit, and other times rarely touch it. I also use Music to play tunes while riding, and have to use the pad to 'swipe right' on tracks I don't like. (Wasn't there a way to exclude certain tracks from playing in a playlist?)

How can I get around the 'sweat factor' issue, and not have a problem interacting with the app. A keyboard is out as there isn't room for it. I have seen where some people use tables next to their setups, but I don't have the room, plus can't imagine the feelings of claustrophobia and problems hitting them with knees and such, and I'd still have sweat. (I find gunk on the iPad screen too, nauseating at times. 'What IS that stuff?' And if it drys on the screen I almost need a chisel to get it off! And the back of the iPad?🤢🤢🤢)

You might be thinking about the original:

Or perhaps the Space Gray version of the Magic Trackpad 2, which they no longer make/sell...

Same with Affinity Photo for me. It’s just not the same with a mouse and I constantly forget which key I have to press to alter the mouse behavior when on the trackpad it’s gestures or number of fingers.
Feels a lot more intuitive to me.

I get that. I had a mouse, trackpad, and Wacom hooked up on the same system, and ran out of desk landscape. I ended the Wacom when they dropped that model. I switched the trackpad to another purpose. *shrug*

Yes! I just found a few for sale, and was wondering if they were fakes... Turns out they are real, but discontinued; you can still fond a few for sale on ebay though.

I like the Magic Mouse overall! But totally get it.

the gestures are nice for me and with magic grips its tolerable.
without, it kinda hurt my hand holding it after not long - terrible ergonomics out of the box imo.

the charging-on-underside thing is silly but it holds a really long charge and I just charge it overnight when im getting low near a wall outlet.

I like the magic keyboard overall, but totally get it there too: to me its just closer to my M1 MBA (though I think that is better to type on), my 2016 MBP, and my Windows laptop for handoff between them. When I want to get slightly fancy, I have my wired numeric keypad Apple keyboard chiclet style I still like thats like 10 years old and just got a cheap linear mechanical KB (EVGA Z15) that is fun to mess around with for 'super fancy' occasions.

I like the new magic trackpads, I have the one that took batteries and was silver no idea where it is, but wouldn't mind getting a newer model Magic Trackpad if not for being kinda done w accessories for a bit and out of space and not liking the cost... then again could probably find a cheap-ish one if I put my mind to looking at listings. looks like a nice improvement to the AA battery model though and flatter, wooo.

Definitely don't recommend the older ones. They feel quite a bit more jankier than the new variants.

Really? did not know there was any difference other than the rounded aesthetic on corners can you elaborate?

seems the adorama deal is for the Magic Trackpad 2 FYI :
MJ2R2LL/A
The 3 is :
MK2D3AM/A

the older ones took replaceable batteries and the trackpad area was kinda "suspended" in the air (the sloped part) so it had a hollow type of sound.
the newer gen magic trackpads ended up utilizing force touch instead of mechanical buttons so you could technically click anywhere on the trackpad with the same button press consistency.

oh yeah, gotcha.

thought you meant difference between 2 and 3.
they look really similar , I think 2 is 2017 is squared edges
3 is 2021 and rounded edges - came with M1 iMac I think

like the keyboard, they made the generation distinctions needlessly confusing.

Its worse on keyboard, because the first wireless keyboard that matched the battery model trackpad I dont think was "Magic" Keyboard whereas trackpad has always been "Magic"

if you just use touch-to-click, its probably a fine solution though right?

Love the trackpad for the three finger swipe to move to a different screen. Use it everyday. I still use the original apple trackpad with the 2 AA batteries.

It's not even that good either, I barely use mine to complement the mouse, the gestures "feel nice" but that's about it.

For any kind of productivity the magic mouse (which is an ergonomics abomination) run circles around it. Trackpad is nice to zoom here and there, feels more natural sure, but 90% of the time with the 2 taps in the mouse I'm quickly there.

Seen many comments like "the trick is not to click" or "3 fingers drag" but even with these enabled it's still less effective than a mouse on multiple levels, I'd even go as far as saying that ergonomics after 7-8 hours of use is worse, may be better for others. YMMV.

At least you can use it while charging :apple:

This encouraged me to look harder for my original AA Magic Trackpad, and... I found it in a box! Stuffed in there loose with all kinds of other stuff, and it didnt break, phew.

Fun to dust this thing off and use again

interestingly it seems like it only adds horizontal surface area not much vertical (though cuts down on that top chin where AA's are housed), and doesn't seem to be that much less of an incline MTP1 vs 2. from googling around.

but the 2 has better aesthetic with the Magic keyboards, no doubt. in that regard 1 looks kinda out of place but hey, its old as hell.

Haha nice, yea you can find decent used deals with these devices. I have both the black & white MM, and despite the black being the newer one, the white one holds up the charge much better, like 2x the time.. 🤷🏼

Never heard about these "magic grips" until your post, is the improvement in ergonomics significant or subtle? Not a fan of glueing stuff to it but they have good reviews.

The compact is nice though I wish it had bigger up & down keys but you get used to them. Oh and a bit of inclination tweaking wouldn't hurt, it's flat as pancake.

$200 without backlit is a massive rip off.

signifcant imo but ymmv there.

its 3m adhesive, so it may leave a residue but I dont know bc I dont plan on pulling it off any time soon and I think a splash of goo gone could take care of it. better the mouse than my hand/wrist.

I kinda hate MM without it to be honest that's how much ill sing my praises of it. worth a try imo.

Agreed. It's comically absurd how Apple doesnt have a backlit magic keyboard out now. I type from memory and feel without looking but that's besides the point... it looks nice.

the year is 2022.

isnt the flat as a pancake thing a good thing though from an ergonomic standpoint? having options is always nice too though.
