Amazon today has the brand new Apple Watch SE for $9 off in select configurations, starting at $269.98 for the 44mm GPS model, down from $279.00. This sale is available in three color options of the aluminum Apple Watch SE.

Although the sale itself isn't particularly steep, this is one of the first deals we have tracked on the second-generation Apple Watch SE, allowing new adopters to save a little bit of money early on in the product's lifespan.

The only other model on sale is the 44mm Cellular Apple Watch SE for $319.98, down from $329.00. Both devices are in stock and sold directly by Amazon, with delivery estimated between September 22 and 25 for most residences in the United States.

The SE seems like a fantastic watch at a fantastic price. It’s what the SE should have been in the first place and the 3 should have died when it came out.

My son will be 12 in Oct. and has just started middle school. In the U.S., apparently every 12 yo has a phone. Bonkers, I say. Surprisingly, he's yet to express any interest in a phone. More surprisingly, his mom - who is whiteout question the most anti-screen person I know - actually said that she thinks we should get him a phone for xmas. Wait wuuuut?

Now that he is a bit more "on his own" (more freedom of travel, on the bus, school end time compared to our work end times, etc.), I can get behind the case being made for us needing a way to communicate/coordinate with each other since we are all a bit more out-of-pocket. But I still maintain he doesn't need a phone - and all the trappings that come with them (carrying them around, pulling them out all the time, begging for your attention, etc.). We have been leveraging Parental Controls on his (and his sister's) iPads for years. For any parent, especially in an Apple ecosystem, it's kind of amazing. So while we could effectively control what functionality is available and when, it still feels bit early for him to be carrying around a phone (see above "trappings").

So where does that leave me?
Insert Apple Watch SE.

While I've not yet had any experience with Parental Controls on an Apple Watch SE, I do want to say at a past keynote (maybe when SE v1 launched), Apple made a bit of a production about Parental Controls and SE. Like, maybe that was the intended use case for SE. Anyway, I believe we are moving toward that as our initial solution. So while these types of articles are of no interest for some, they are for others - which is the beauty of this incredible site: there is literally something for everyone. From someone who has somehow managed to never have heard of an iPhone, to the super nerds who track delivery flights our of China (my hand is raised). Keep up the good work MR team.

Friendly reminder that Costco typically has watches $10 off regularly, and sales on top sometimes. Plus discounted AppleCare.
