Record low discounts have returned to Apple's 2020 M1 Mac mini on Amazon today, in both 256GB and 512GB storage options. For the 256GB model, you won't see the sale price until you reach the checkout screen and receive an automatic coupon on your order.

Starting with the 256GB M1 Mac mini, you can get this version for $599.99, down from $699.00. This is beating the previous Amazon low price of $639.00, and it's in stock and ready to ship today.

You can also save $100 on the 512GB M1 Mac mini, available for $799.00, down from $899.00. This is another all-time low price on the M1 Mac mini, beating the previous record low of $829.00 on Amazon and other retailers.

When I checked the link and price at 9:43am CST this morning the price of the 256GB is at $649, not $599. The 512GB model still shows at $799 though.

It's a shame that 16 GB is only a build-to-order option and that third party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy won't stock any M1 Macs with more than 8 GB of RAM. Hopefully that changes when Apple introduces the next generation.

8MB RAM models? Not a surprise. I wouldn’t get anything under 16 and haven’t. A 256GB SSD is way too light too, though many would be okay with 512GB.
The 8GB is on sale almost everywhere. Never ever considered to get this model. Actually running a 16GB 1TB version as a secondary system...

New Mac Mini M1 8GB 256GB SSD is only $579 at Microcenter. Microcenter always has Apple Products Discounted.
Open Box one is only $521, pretty much giving them away at that price.

Did you put it in your cart and go all the way to the checkout step to see the additional coupon?

I’m really glad they don’t. I don’t need 16/512 and am more than happy with 8/256 and its price point.
What he means is that Apple should make the 16/512 an available model for retailers like Amazon or Best Buy to carry in stock, not that it should replace the 8/256 as the base model. Right now users who want 16 GB of RAM have no choice but to go through Apple as a build to order option (except for a 16/1TB build of the MBP).

I think you misunderstood what some of us want. I don't want to remove the 8/256 option but having a standard stock version with 16GB/512GB would be nice. Right now if you want 16GB on the MBP, MBA or mini you have to to custom order which really limits the choice of vendors and discounts.

I'm happy with my Intel i5/256GB/32GB RAM. My thunderbolt audio interface isn't compatible with Apple Silicon yet. I'd never buy anything stuck on 8GB these days.

What would be the better investment. Buying a new M1 Mac mini or installing a 1TB SSD on my i5 2012 Mini w/16GB RAM?
It really depends. Installing an SSD will definitely give you a huge speed boost and it will feel like a new machine. But you would still be using a now obsolete system with limited support and no further OS upgrades.

If it’s your main system and you don’t rely on any 32bit apps, I would personally sell it and put that money towards an M1 mini. Just make sure to get the maximum 16gb of ram for added longevity.
