Today is World Backup Day, an annual event created to protect your devices from data loss and data theft by reminding you to back everything up to an external storage device. Of course, various retailers are marking the special day with deals on digital storage solutions, and we're rounding up the best sales below.

The internal SSD is aimed for PC gaming, but it is also compatible with the PlayStation 5 as well. Users should note that this model does not come with a heatsink, and if they aim to use the SSD in the PS5 a heatsink will need to be purchased separately.

Tomorrow is "World bmustaf Day". On this exciting day, you'll enjoy celebrating by Venmo'ing me $100 to celebrate! You're welcome, enjoy the day!

I received an email from BackBlaze earlier to get me to subscribe, I thought it was just something they made up themselves. 🤣

Instead it's something someone else made up just to push product.

I guess it's an APFS thing, but I just can't even get Carbon Copy Cloner to finish my monthly offsite backup to an HDD. I got one full clone done, but when I went to update it last weekend, it was estimating like 40 hours -- and this was just to update the backup of my 1TB internal drive that I don't think had *that* much data changed.

Now I'm looking at just biting the bullet and paying $200 for a 4TB SSD of some kind. Doesn't have to be blazing fast, but it shouldn't take multiple days to make a backup...

Lots of people overpay for drives these days, you don’t need a SSD if you’re just backing up. If you’re constantly transferring large files it’s a different story, but there’s no reason to spend over $100 for most people if you’re just backing up.

This **** is getting more and more as life goes on

I almost lost all my data. Now I run multiple backups and store on a server 😭

Except external SSDs are more reliable/durable…which I consider pretty important for my backups.

I’ve had numerous external HDDs fail or go bad eventually. None of my external SSDs have gone bad yet, they’re much smaller and easier to store and carry, and they’re extremely durable (especially something like the T7 Shield) making it much more conducive for traveling with.

If you’re a hardcore backup geek with stationary backup servers constantly running at home, then yea…SSD isn’t realistic. But for the average Joe doing occasional backups, I think the T7 Shield or Sandisk extreme SSD are fantastic options.
