Amazon has the 27-inch iMac model with 8 GB RAM and 1 TB Fusion Drive priced at $1,649.00 ($150 off) and one with 8 GB RAM and 2 TB Fusion Drive priced at $2,167.99 ($131 off). Both computers are the base models sold by Apple on its own website, and these prices are also being matched at B&H Photo.

These are priced pretty close to what I’d consider an acceptable price for an Apple 5K Thunderbolt Display. I will buy one if Apple adds Target Display Mode back to it. Lots of bonus points if Apple engineers use the extra bandwidth from Thunderbolt 3 to let us use the iMac’s GPU when outputting to it with a MacBook Pro.

A really consumer friendly thing would also be to sell one of these without a hard drive or ram for use as a stand-alone display and eGPU. With the savings it could be close to the price of the LG ultra fine display they sell now.

The iMac really needs to be done with classic hard drives. It’s now the only Mac that uses them and it should have dropped them two years ago. No one should be spending more than $500 on a computer with a slow spinning hard drive. Time to move on Apple.

Ya, because no one wants Fusion drive.
Also, is this where Apple giving Amazon discount and no one else?

The Fusion Drive sucks because Apple only gives you 24GB of SSD on the 1TB model. I run ArcGIS through Parallels on my work iMac, and performance is pathetic booting into Windows. Once Windows gets loaded to the SSD, the program runs fine. However, I can tell in my workflow when I'm loading files off the 5400 HDD, since I get a lot of spinning wheels.

Hang a high-performance TB3 SSD off the back for a boot drive and you've saved yourself some major coin.

Don't dismiss it out of hand.
Yes but that adds to the cost. There is no reason to ship anything with less than 500gb of ssd nowadays.
