Costco recently had a 2018 mbp deal, 15”, 2.6 i7, 512ssd, 560x for $1999. That was the best I have seen till date.. I never see anything from Costco on any deals site..

I think at this point, lots of people are waiting to see what the new rumored 16" laptop will bring (except higher prices)- like maybe a new scissors keyboard

Yep, the reputation is sealed on this generation of flawed macbooks and macbook pros.

The word is out even among the general population to avoid these if possible. Price drops are the only way to try to prop up sales.

I think it’s best to avoid these small 128/256GB SSD in MacBook Pros. They’re tiny, they’re half as fast as higher capacity models, and they’re not replaceable.

These retail deals are great, but that 8gb of memory is a big deal breaker for me. Maybe if it was 2012 I'd bite.

I'm debating 8 vs 16....But I keep checking activity monitor, and I never use 8, let alone the 16 that I have. And for the few times that I might need it, that is what a fast Ssd is for. Sometimes, I think we lose sight of how much 8 gb actually is.

ummm.... I actually researched it a bit for I made a comment http://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/13918341. that is a Geekbench of ~18000 (better screen and CPU, and Ssd (I think - Dell is hard to google speed on, than a comparably priced Dell laptop). so you are saying, that is half as fast (that would be 36000 on a Geekbench, I know, right?) as higher capacity models. HMMMM! don't think so.

Maybe you forgot to check the model year tag - 2019. I know they used a dual core before, but discontinued it.

I just purchased my MacBook Pro 256gb at Best Buy for $1000 2019 model. I recently had a 128gb 2019 model and when I saw the deals i jumped on it so quickly. The reason the price was only to $1000 was because it was already on discount for $200 yesterday and then I added my student discount which dropped it down to another $100 and I didn’t even know I had another $100 coupon in my Best Buy account so then it came out to being $1000 and I applied for a Best Buy card which I’m financing the $1000 for no interest for 12 months. I say I got a great deal .

Those are CPU performance benchmarks. Geekbench is great, I’m a fan!

I was talking about SSD performance though. The smaller the capacity, the slower the speed. The 2019 MacBook Air is available with a 128GB SSD, it only gets about 1000MB/s. The 1TB ones get 3200MB/s.

That's my issue as well. Whenever I check the memory usage on my iMac, I tend to be around 12 GB. I therefore assume I would take a pretty noticeable hit on a computer with only 8 GB.

Yeah I leave CoD WW2 on in the background and dont like to close anything so I am a memory hog. Plus I use chrome ha

I’m getting the base model. Buying an external SSD. I’m just a basic user. Email and web mostly. It’s the best bang for the buck with the new upgrades. I’ll be buying it from Apple and selling the beats headphones bringing down the cost.

If they ever offer a sale on a BTO Vega model, I might be sorely tempted. As it is I'm tempted to wait until October and see whether the mythical 16-in model is released. It may well be out of my price range, but maybe there will be some small adjustments to the 15-in MBP which will be welcome.
