14-inch MacBook Pro

Starting with the 14-inch MacBook Pro, you can get the 8-Core M1 Pro/512GB model for $1,799.00 in Silver, down from $1,999.00. This is a solid second-best price on the 14-inch MacBook Pro, and there's a slight shipping delay with estimated delivery of around July 22.

For a higher-end model, the 10-Core M1 Pro/1TB 14-inch MacBook Pro is on sale for $2,299.00, down from $2,499.00. This is another second-best price on the MacBook Pro, and stock is available in both colors at this price.

16-inch MacBook Pro

For the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro, we're tracking an all-time low price on the 10-Core M1 Pro/1TB model, priced at $2,449.00, down from $2,699.00. At $250 off, this is the best price you'll find online for this version of the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro.

$1800 for a 14" MBP that arrives in 2 weeks or wait 2 months for the same spec Air at $1600. 🤔

Pro. No brainer. The increases in performance and display quality are easily worth $200. Unless you won't be able to pay your rent because of that $200 difference, the choice is clear.
If you have to be deciding between this and rent, you have serious issues. 😄

These are great deals on the MBP as long as you can stomach an upgrade coming possibly coming out in the 4th quarter of this year or the 1st quarter of next year.

I'd guess the 2022 or 2023 MBP is likely to just be a spec bump. Maybe an HDMI 2.1 port too. Probably not worth waiting for unless you really need the performance or want to ensure an extra year of macos support.

At regular price I'd wait, but at $1800 it's a good buy.

For us power users and geeks this is a no brainer over any of the lower horsepower machines.

That said, $1,800 is a lot of money for a laptop, so I still wouldn't recommend this to most people unless they really know that they need the power for video editing, coding, prosumer photo work etc. Most 'normal' people looking for a computer will get all the machine they need with a base M1 or M2 laptop.

(Side note - This really makes the non-discounted MSRP of the 13" M2 MBP look bizarre.)

Coped one in 4th of July discounts,$200 off! Definitely better than M2 Air!

I already regret taking back the base one for the 1TB/32GB model. More I think about it that $1800+269 AppleCare for that model is a a steal compared to $2500+269 for the upgraded storage and ram…maybe I’ll take it back

I think portability is something to consider for some people. I have used the 2017 12 inch MacBook for years - it has been my favorite laptop but obviously underpowered. It has served me very well as a wonderful portable work tool. Sadly its just too slow now. Also sadly the MacBook Air is .7lbs heavier but the 14 pro is another .8lbs heavier than that. If you travel A LOT convenience adds up. If the air's performance is still good then you're paying for portability. Don't forget that. Ideally I was hoping they would release a new version of the 12 inch with apple silicon. Reduced bezels would have gotten it close to 13inches. Oh well....

My experience mirrors yours except I have the even more underpowered 2015 MacBook 12. I still carry it everywhere because it's so light. I am also hoping for a 12" refresh with an M-class chip.

Make sure you're not just experiencing buyer's remorse. If there's a reason that you thought you needed 1TB/32GB for your work, and that reason is still valid, then keep the machine. The extra cost will be forgotten soon enough with the time saved. Wishing that you had more space/RAM can never be undone.

If you bought the extra SSD and RAM for 'future-proofing' then return that thing as fast as your legs will get you to the Apple store. Even the base spec machines are super powerful.

Future-proofing for RAM really doesn't make sense any more. By the time you get to a point where 16GB RAM doesn't serve you, you will probably want to update the CPU as well. And remember, with Apple silicon, each successive generation is going to have more dedicated compute units (neural engines, GPU, CPU cores, video encoders/decoders etc.). Just like we saw with the M1 iPad which does things no other iPad chip can do.

Coming from a 15.4” MacBook Pro and I’m so tempted to get the 14” M1 Pro model, possibly even with the admittedly unnecessary upgraded chip and 1TB SSD.

However, the 16” is becoming more attractive even when I was set on the 14”. It seems on YouTube that most Apple enthusiasts prefer the 14” model, and regret getting the larger MacBook Pro. I also don’t mind smaller displays. At the same time, I very rarely transport my Mac.

I could easily fall for the MacBook Air if the display and design are appealing, but I also appreciate and benefit from the Pro upgrades.

Nonetheless, Apple silicon is getting so good that even the M2 chip can fly through the occasional Pro app.

This was just what I needed to read friend. I definitely do not need this for any professional work as of now, more a personal purchase so I have no reason to upgrade and spend that extra $600. I went ahead and canceled my order and re-purchased the base model. If I need to buy a new computer in the next five years I'll just do it then similar to when I bought my 2017. I really appreciate the help!

The M1 -> M2 upgrade in the 13" MBP wasn't very spectacular. Performance was incremental, but the new M2 MBP thermal throttles because the M2 pulls more watts the chassis isn't designed for. That's not a good design direction to head back to thermal issues in the very first rev of the M-chips.

After over a month of waiting, I finally got the notification that my 16" 64Gb/2Tb is shipping (and that my PayPal is dry, lol). The anticipation is (nearly) killing me!

Probable.

They’re regularly discounted to ~ $200 off.
Here in the UK, it is currently sat at 9% off which works out at roughly $200. Is it likely to go lower on Prime Day. Have we ever seen discounts larger than $200?

Appreciate this is an 'impossible' question but I'm desperate to press that order button! ;)

Costco has had them for $250 off.
