Apple's Mac Studio with the M2 Max chip (32GB RAM, 512GB SSD) has dropped to $1,799.00 today on B&H Photo, down from $1,999.00. As of writing, only B&H Photo has this deal, and you can get free two-day shipping.

This is an all-time low price on the M2 Max Mac Studio, which Apple debuted during WWDC in June. This is a second-generation device and has the same overall design as the original model. The main upgrades come from the updated M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips.

Additionally, B&H Photo has the M2 Ultra Mac Studio (64GB RAM, 1TB SSD) for $3,699.00, down from $3,999.00. This is another best-ever price on the Mac Studio that only B&H Photo has right now, and it's available for free two-day shipping as well.

The Costco by me as of last week had the Mac Studio M1 Max base on clearance for $1250. I was very tempted, but since I got a Mac mini M2 Pro a several months ago I just couldn't justify it.

seems in the ballpark of a similar specd m2pro mac mini, no? and with m2max to boot.

question- what are the cons of connecting a good external drive for the extra storage vs paying for internal 1tb+?

I think my next Apple computer is actually gonna be a Mac Studio. I have three 24 inch monitors I have not desire to throw out and it would be the perfect fit for this when the time comes. Right now, I just can't justify another computer with all the working devices I have. But M7 or M8 Max, I see you!

Any of the extra options aren't on sale - only the base M2 Max/32/512.

If you opt for the 64GB or 1tb upgrades they're the same price as buying it from Apple.

Just buy a good NVME drive like the wd black 850 and put it in an acasis 40gbps housing and plug into thunderbolt. Ya should be good then… I’m def not paying thousands for apples storage and this works great

The 1tb+ is supposed to be much faster than the 512Gb, and faster than any external drives. Not sure how noticeable it is in real life. Of course it all depends on the type of work you do. Besides speed, the main advantage of a larger internal drive is convenience.

I’m lusting after a Studio with the 1TB upgrade to replace my perfectly competent 2019 iMac. I’ll probably pull the trigger on both the Studio and Studio Display wnen BOTH are available in the refurb store. Apple REFURB cannot be told from new and is typically 15% cheaper.

If it’s TB it’s using PCI Express. So you are getting the same speed either way.

The external enclosure may reduce it a bit with whatever circuitry, but probably not noticeable.

Mine still has them for 1499. Been that price for a few months now. I wonder if they actually sold any.

Yep, mine did too for the longest time before finally dropping to $1250 (on 8/29/23). So keep checking if you are in the market!

Wow. I love my M1 Studio and don't need a second but that's the best price I've seen for one, new or used. My Costco sold out their inventory of M1 Studios quite some time ago. They were selling them for $1,499. I think that there's a thread on them in the Studio forum from last spring.

I'd guess that they did in my area. I live near a border town in a state with no sales taxes. The adjacent state has sales taxes. I was shopping for an Ultra and noticed that they were all out of stock in my state but there were plenty in the state with sales taxes. So people shopping for Ultras found the tax free aspect of buying in my state worth the trip and cleaned out our stores. I assume that they did the same thing at Costco.
