Apple refurbished laptops are generally like brand new machines. I’ve heard mixed results from Woot refurbished computers and phones on here. Any comments from those with experience?

I've been thinking a bit about a 2020 MacBook Air. Generally I'm a very light computer user with with some development, mysql, python and such, but really mostly want a new computer to be able to drive two external monitors which will connect via RDP to a work desktop. I use older external apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Would this be viewed as a better laptop than the 2020 MacBook Air?

128GB SSD? So after the OS install and Office....maybe Lightroom, you have no space to do anything else!

Are the SSD's easily replaceable in these machines, else they're pretty much a waste of money.

The Woot site for this says the Macbook's are APPLE REFURBISHED, not Woot Refurbished, so they should be like new. They just don't come with an Apple 1YR warranty, they come with a Woot 1YR.

I believe the SSD's are soldered to the board so no upgrading possible. Dell has started doing something similar to their newest ultra-thin 2-in-1's. It's a bad sign...

I've got a 2019 13" Pro, i absolutely LOVE the keyboard, such a shame they did launch the butterfly keyboard originally with how it is with the 3rd version of it, and had a physical esc key from the start with the touchbar, i dont think the backlash would have been as big. Not too keen on my 2017 Macbook keyboard, but the 3rd interation is what i like the most. The keys really do feel mushy when i use my 2012, 2015 Air, or 2013 Pro. Image now many Macbooks Apple could sell if the 13" pro started at 899 normally..... Timmy should really lower the prices and try and go for a bit of market share.

Spend the extra $200 and get the new 2020 model for better keyboard, faster processor, and 256GB SSD
Are you talking the refurbished 2020, because a new MBP 13" w/256GB is $1499. I didn't see any 2020's in the Apple Outlet.

I agree it is a brand/brain damaging amount of entry level storage for a 2019 "pro" device, but for those who only need word processing, email and a browser it is sufficient.

They tried the minimum 256 GB thing with the 12” MacBook but unfortunately people thought it was too expensive. It was perfect for me but the masses saw the price increase as too high.

It is too bad the 12” MacBook has been discontinued. I will be keeping my 2017 Core m3 12” MacBook with 256 GB storage and 16 GB RAM for a very long time.

That's seriously poor the storage is soldered on. Makes me question any upgrade. I currently still have my Late 2013 i5 MBP with 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD, and sat next to me for almost 4 months is a 2014 i7 mainboard with 16GB RAM, so once I do this upgrade, I'll stick with this for a while longer :)

Costs differ by less than 50$ so that would never be an issue.

Problem is with reasonable storage (and RAM) there is little incentive for the costumer to go for BTOs and that where :apple: makes them big bucks.

The SSD's are soldered onboard.

I’ve been keeping my eye for some sales but with my luck I’ll get this and the new one gets announced right after.

There's no "just" about it. Without an Apple warranty, there's no option for AppleCare. And without an Apple warranty, you have to rely on Woot to fix it, should something go wrong.

Tread with care. However if those things aren't a problem for you, and if you don't mind the (in my opinion) crap keyboard and too-small SSD, then maybe it's a reasonable deal for you.

I purchased one the last time Woot had the 2019 MBP's listed. Other than coming in a generic white box, the laptop looked brand new. I couldn't be happier and saved $200 from what I would've paid from Apple's refurbished site.

Where is updated 13" Macbook Pro with the magic keyboard,14.1" screen and whatever else Apple choose to upgrade ?
