Apple iTunes will now be competing directly with brick and mortar stores as it will now have movies available for download on the same day as the DVD is released

Apple Inc announced on Friday that new releases and catalog sales will now be available on the same day as the DVD is released from 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment, and First Look Studios. This means that now iTunes will be competing directly with the brick and mortar retail shops selling DVDs.

I've noticed that new releases are showing up very quickly for purchase lately!

I have a feeling this doesn't include rentals, though.
