Thanks to the leaked document, I realised that my iPhone 3GS has a reception issue as well.
I took out my case, and try cupping the bottom right. Yes, my signal did drop to almost nothing from full.
Then I had my Three sim in there. Three has a pretty bad reception in Australia, so I swapped my Telstra Prepaid in, and tried the same thing.
Signal stayed full. Telstra is well known for its network and is the fastest in Australia.
So I'm guessing the 'death grip' reception issue is more apparent for people with less than ideal network reception. Which should explain why it's not an issue for all.
