Hello! I’ve been battling my Powermac G5 for these past few weeks. I’ve been able to get Adelie Linux to work relatively well but I’d like to try Debian and unfortunately I’m having no luck. I’m using the net installer iso for PowerPC64 and everything seems to be going well until it freezes at

smp_core99_probe
smp_core99_kick_cpu
smp_core99_kick_cpu done
smp_core99_bringup_done

Quiescing Open Firmware...
Booting Linux via __start() @ 0x0000000002090000....

It ramps the CD drive up and down a bit and will spool the fans for a second but no dice. Someone else was having a similar issue and fixing their clock setting did it another said removing the network cable fixed it. I’ve tried both as my clock was messed up and network cable plugged in. But neither has helped. The G5 should now have the correct time minus a minute or so. I set it both in Open firmware and through a Linux terminal but no change.

The Machine is a late 05 dual core with 4 gigs of ram and a 6600gt, I’ve tried both a 1tb drive which Adelie boots on and a 120gb ssd that leopard boots off, and with no HD’s at all. RAMs been reseated, PRAM reset. Feel like I’m at my wits end here. I threw a hd 4350 I have laying around in there. No idea if it works. But thought Adelie would show up after all the Apple stuff was done but got nothing so if it is a gpu issue with Debian specifically I have no other alternative at the moment. Action Retro seemed to be able to use a 6600 and everything just worked. Well at least the installer did. I got my hopes up thinking finally something on this thing will be easy lol. I’m just trying to figure out what it is about my machine that’s so different.

I’ve tried burning the image to a cd and dvd and both get stuck at the same spot. I use imgburn which I also used to make my Adelie disks which worked. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
