decrypting a flash drive

I encrypted my flash drive awhile back and now I want to decrypt it. I have nothing on it and I remember the key but it is not showing up on my desktop. The encrypted partition is visible in disk utility but all of the buttons are grayed out so I cant figure out how to change it

Hmm, that's strange. Have you tried perhaps using Windows to format it if it's available to you?

What is the make/model of the USB drive? I know there are some out there with hardware encryption but not sure if they have special requirements for formatting.

It is just a Verbatim plastic 8gb.

I do not have a Windows PC easily accessible, but would I be able to reformat in a Windows VM?

Okay I got access to a computer running Windows 7 and plugged it into the machine. It appeared in devices and printers but did not appear in my computer . I tried to change it's settings but I was unable to because I am not an admin.
