My friend is looking to buy a laptop sometime soon, in the range of £600-£900. He is considering a mac but the lack of dedicated graphics and a macbook pro being too expensive are a problem for him. Any chance of seeing dedicated graphics in the next revision of the macbook?

i wouldnt have thought so as it its one of the main things which distinguishes the macbook pro from the macbook line. Refurb macbook pros are your best bet, or save up a little bit more to get the low-end MBP with HE dsicount

I think this is going to remain a distinguishing feature between the two machines for a long time. If you friend wants an OSX laptop with dedicated graphics he should look at refurbished or used MBPs.

What i would love to see is...

...a 13" Macbook Pro.

The way it could be done would be to sacrifice the optical drive in favor of a dedicated GPU and not an integrated one.

Unfortunately i think that that dream is gone with the arrival of the Macbook Air.

^^ Yep the MacBook Air is the 13" MBP.

I doubt there will be discrete graphics in the MB for a long time, if ever. To be honest though unless he wants to play games or use Final Cut Studio the integrated graphics will be fine. The same applies if you buy a PC, X3100 and even the old GMA950 is fine for general use.

Exactly....

...on the other hand i definitely would appreciate a 13 MBP with dedicated graphics as i am a animator/filmmaker and would love a 13" version of my 15" MBP. I do most of my work at home on my mac pro but it would be great ti be able to edit, composite, etc on an easier to carry, lighter laptop.... not that i dont love my MBP!

Yeah, would make sense to distance the MBs and MBPs.
Thanks for the replies, i will pass them on.

^^ Yeah, considering its £120 more expensive for it being in black and a bigger HD
Are you a thom yorke fan by the way?

Radiohead are OK, but I'm not a huge fan (though I did buy their latest album), why?
