Default Program won't set

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2016 MacBook Pro and I am having a rather annoying issue.

I have a .m3u file which I always want to open in VLC but every time I set this to always open with VLC it opens the file in VLC and then reverts the default program back to iTunes.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Right click > Get Info

Under the open with part choose VLC and then hit change all.

It should be the same as right click > Open with but somehow the first way works better for me and maybe for you.
