Yikes. Yes, I'd like the answer to this too... I bought a macbook recently.

Although if there was a problem, I would expect Apple to issue a recall.
 
Go to the System Profiler, and then to the Serial-ATA section. You will from there be able to see the revision number.

Do mean that whatever it lists under 'revision' is the firmware version? My 80GB Seagate has revision 3.CAE which seems to be a totally different numbering system.

My backup drive is a 160GB 2.5" Seagate too, which is a bit concerning...
