Define File Types for Finder sorting

Hi

Currently all my .psd and .pngs are both grouped by 'Image' can I define .psd to be it's own 'Type' category called 'Photoshop' (similarly with .FLAs etc)?

Do you mean the built in search function (CMD+F) or Smart Folders (All Images)?

i'm not sure what smart folders are but i just mean when i'm using finder to browse my files and folders like normal:
