Optus in Aus are selling 8GB iphones for nothing upfront and $49 a month. Offer ends May 22nd though. I wonder if that is the date the iphone will no longer be available?

They stopped selling the 1st gen iphone 4 or so weeks before 3G as I don't think they wanted critisism of selling a phone they know will be replaced.

So give it 6-8 weeks then so available world wide end June to Mid July???

So it is obvious a new iphone is coming soon (sorry stating teh obvious I know)

umm. ok.

If the same thing starts occuring both in the States and in Europe then I would really take note. I wouldn't get too worked up about things based on this. I do think that an update is coming, but I doubt it will be announced before the WWDC and will probably not be available in early to mid July just like last year.

It is interesting though.

Doubt it will happen in the US, but selling it directly through Apple.com is good news.
