Just left my local best buy where I spoke with the Apple Specialist (They now where black Apple Specialist shirts)

Asked about Friday's launch. He said verbatim we are not going to be allowed to sell it early. It will sell at 5:00. We have already been told we will be receiving a pallet early Friday with our shipments. We will only be doing a ticket system if lines are longer than the quantities we have. Tickets will be given out first come first serve to the line and will designate the model you are waiting for. They expect to get all versions but will not know for sure until Friday.

All those hoping that Best Buy or Walmart will sell early forget it. Be smart here...they won't jeopardize this partnership for anything. (I also have some deep connections at Walmart Corporate and the instructions are being sent to the store not to sell either.)

iPhone 4s at Walmart were locked in the Manager's Office and not delivered until 8:00 AM to the cell centers.

So don't get your hopes up, keep calling the 16 year old girl who doesn't the ipad from a maxipad. See you at 5:00
 
When I read "Definitive," I assumed that Best Buy had posted an announcement on their website. But it's good to hear about your conversation--that sounds accurate.
 
I too am excited like everyone else. But I was just getting tired hearing people who called best buy and they said yea at 9. If that was the case no one would go to the Apple Store.

I just had to get it from the source.
 
How's that definate? Many of us have talked with "BB Apple" people, and have gotten different info.
 
I'm planning to just show up around 4pm and I figure there'll be stock. If not, no biggie, it can wait a few days. Just wanted to get one for the hubby on launch day (32gb 3G) for a change. :)
 
I'm hoping for 64GB 3G (doesn't matter the color).

They told me today when they open the door. But I'll call on Thursday night just to confirm.
 
It's insane that people actually think that they may go on sale before 5:00pm. What's the logic behind that? Apple specifically said 5:00pm...and they didn't say "5:00pm at Apple Stores"...they just said "5:00pm", as in 5:00pm everywhere.

I think it's even more insane that some people believe it will actually go down smoothly with none being sold before 5pm. If you've followed launches across multiple retail chains at all, even if rules are laid down they're inevitably always broken somewhere. If a store said they were selling it early, some will catch the error of it and some won't.

Also, it will never be "5:00 everywhere", but as Jimmy Buffet sings, "It's 5 o'clock SOMEWHERE"!!!! ;)

Your wasting your time. Apple will eat their lunch if any retailer sells before 5. Doesn't mean some knucklehead won't screw up, but those who think Apple would allow any retailer to steal their thunder (media, news, etc.) are just wishfully thinking. Not going to happen.

Pretty sure they came in boxes of 5 last year.

Also on most new releases like this the inventory system will have a ridiculously high price on the item until it is time to sell it. So say someone tries to ring it up early it will ring up for $10,000 instead of $500. They may not be able to do that for a certain hour though so who knows.
 
According the nice guy I spoke with tonight, the Manger at my local store, he said "be here early". I replied for a line, or to buy? He said just be here when the doors open if you want one. So I took that to mean a ticket will be handed out for 5, or they will be selling them at 10am.
