Delay in Growl notifications...very annoying

On my MBP, Growl notifications are taking several seconds to appear. For example, someone will send me an IM, and 1...2...3 seconds or so later the Growl notification will pop up. Same with uploading files via Transmit, changing songs in iTunes, etc. On my iMac they're instantaneous.

Anyone have any ideas?
