Delay/Turn Off Marked as Read in Mail App

Hi all

Have looked around for this but struggling to find current information.

Wondering if anyone knows in this day and age if it's possible to turn off (or delay) emails being automatically marked as read when clicked on? I'm running Monterey 12.3.1 on Macbook and Mac Mini. If not, does anyone know of a working third-party plugin that does this?
