Delay when entering text?

Sometimes when entering text in a field on Safari on the iPhone when pressing keys there is a delay...for instance when entering user names and passwords...is this because the iPhone is slowing down or because the website is not functioning correctly? Also for instance...there are certain websites in which for me there is always a delay when entering text...such as Apple Discussions search field.

Happens to me too on my banks login page. It takes like 5-6 seconds per letter.
I think it has to do with the way the site is configured and not much you can do about it.
