For some reason, even after respring/reboot etc., some apps don't have the X when I try to delete them. Will deleting the folder in /var/mobile/Applications/ work if I just delete it through iFile?

I know a restore will fix it. I'm just wondering if deleting the app folder inside /var/mobile/applications/ will be the same as if I hit the X.

Bumping this because Google only comes up with this thread for info, and the OP asked a very simple yes or no question that was never answered.

So, again, if you delete the folder in var/mobile/applications with iFile, is that the same as deleting an app using wiggle/X? This applies to regular app store apps, not Cydia apps or stock apps.

No. While the icon is gone, iOS still thinks it is installed and will act as if it is still installed. In general practice, don't do this.

I had the same issue. What I did was deleted the app from iTunes on the PC. Then I sync'd my iPhone with my PC. Then I used iFile and deleted the application folder from var/mobile/applications. After rebooting the phone, the dimmed application icon is no longer on my screen.

I'm not sure if there are other files that need to be deleted though. Hope that helps.

Did you try deleting the apps from Settings app under General->Usage?
