Delete camera roll option doesn't delete the camera roll

If you swipe and then delete the camera roll, it doesn't actually delete anything. Why not?

I think it's just a bug. I just tried it on an iPad 3 and it didn't work. I'd test it on my 5 or mini, but if it does work, I don't want to lose any pictures.

I'm doing it on a 5 and it's not working.
