Not sure where to post this, but it recently started happening. I only notice this in iTunes. Running the latest version of iTunes, the latest version of Lion, and have a standard USB Apple keyboard on my 2007 iMac. Within the last month or two, my delete key stopped working. It's the Delete key by the Home and End keys, the one that will delete letters after the cursor position. If I am trying edit the name of a song title in the list view in iTunes, and I click on the title, the delete key will not delete characters after the position. However, if I highlight a few characters, and then hit delete, it deletes the selection. Now to make it more odd, if I hit Cmnd-I and view the info of a song, and I try to edit any sections there, the delete functions just as it should, deleting any characters after the cursor position.

This is baffling me. Has anyone else experienced this??? Again, this is only in iTunes, and even then, only certain sections. No problems with any other applications.

Same here. Delete key not working in iTunes's list view but in the information window.

Must be a bug—that hopefully gets fixed soon. It's really annoying.

Same with me and it's very annoying, I have to quit iTunes to get it to work again, iTunes has also stopped quitting which is even more annoying and another story all together.

By "stopped quitting" do you mean that "Quit iTunes" is sometimes greyed out for no apparent reason? I noticed that, too.

Well I'd highly suggest anyone experiencing this issue to submit feedback to Apple. If they get one submission like this they'd probably think I was crazy. Better if they get a few.

No, it quits and immediately opens again, even stops the mac from shutting down.

Hm, I haven't had this problem.

Here's the feedback message I just sent via Apple's feedback page:

I (and at least a few more people on the MacRumors Forums) noticed that in iTunes's list view the delete key (on a full-size Apple keyboard; not the backspace key) won't delete the letter on the right-hand side of the cursor as it is supposed to.
If I select a few letters, however, they are deleted as expected when pressing the key.

The odd thing is that in the info window for a given track (and in any other application, for that matter), the delete key works as expected, deleting the letter on the right-hand side of the cursor.

I'd be happy to see this bug fixed in the next iTunes update.

Kind regards,
...

Manfred, after you highlight something, the delete key should work by itself, having to use the shift key as well is not normal. Go to System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard and make sure that sticky keys it not checked.

What are you replying to? Nobody's talking about using the shift key.

All, I just submitted feedback to Apple as well via their feedback page stating basically the same thing as flatfoot. Hopefully they will get this fixed. I also confirmed with someone who has the newer Apple keyboards with only a single Delete key, and holding down Function with Delete still has the same odd behavior in iTunes list view.
