Delete local copies of email from Mail app?

Old emails just accumulate endlessly and I can't seem to find anything in the Mail app's settings to either clear the email cache or at least have them expire and be deleted from the device after, say, 30 days.

Email account POP or SMTP?

IMAP/SMTP of course. I'm sure it still exists in the protocols for compatibility with AOL or something, but who uses POP in 2025?

Only way I know of is to delete and re-add the mail account.
