Hello,

After migrating across to Photos can we delete the old iPhoto library? Just I have chose the option to optimise space but not sure how long that takes to start and would like to reclaim some space.

----------

Might have found answer. think its a no.:)

I was under the impression it's not taking up space just renamed. But I'm pretty lost right now with IPL vs iPhoto's

Yes you can. The files will still be there and point to the new Photos library instead of the iPhoto library. Read this article about how OS X uses hard links to accomplish this.

Previously I had one file under pictures called iPhotolibrary of 36Gig. Now I have a file called Iphotolibrary.migratedphotolibrary of 36Gig as well as another called photolibrary.photolibrary of 37gig. How does that fit with not duplicating the files. Should I just delete iphotolibrary.migratedphtolibrary.

Yes, those are all hard linked to the original files.
