I'd like to delete photos from the Documents folder, photos which I did not knowingly insert therein. However, I'm worried that deletion would remove
the photos from iPhoto. Is this so? I realize this is a basic question but previous troubles with iPhoto have left me very wary.
Thanks in anticipation.

It depends how you have iPhoto set up.
Go to preferences > advanced.
As long as the box "copy items ....." is ticked, you are fine because that means all your iPhoto photos are in its library.

It depends on how you manage your iPhoto Library.

In iPhoto / Preferences / Advanced, is the tick box "Copy files to iPhoto Library" checked or not ?

If it has always been checked, all your photos are in the iPhoto Library folder, so deleting a picture in the Documents folder will not remove it from iPhoto.

Edit : NINJA'D !!
