Deleted "Applications" icon....

Was working on the laptop with my son and accidently dragged the Application icon off the dock and it disappeared....I can use finder to get to it, but it is not on the Dock or under Places when I use Finder....gone for good? And how would I get it back to the dock?

Find the applications folder in Finder, drag it to the dock

To add it back to the finder sidebar: Finder->Preferences->Sidebar
