iPhone Deleted appointments from deleted calendars reappear on iphone calendar

Old repeating appointments from deleted calendars show up on my i Phone.
I can not delete them from the phone.
They do not show on my desktop calendar, because I deleted them months ago. When I search the calendar for this specific item, nothing comes up. But they still are on my phone. Any ideas how to get rid?
