I seriously doubt I'm the only one experiencing this. When I delete a contact and search the name of that contact in iMessage, their name and phone number still shows up. Glitch or just software fault?

Messages app stock piles a sort of auto complete index.

So you can even text someone, or a service, and without adding the contact, it will remember that again in the future.

I don't know of a way to wipe that index.

Or at least from my experience, that's what it seems like is happening.

I found the deleted contacts that were coming up were deleted off my main contact list but still on one of the contact groups I did not have checked. Once I deleted the contacts off all the groups they no longer pop-up on iMessage or search.

I don't have this problem~
Has your Contacts app been updated on your Mac? Have you opened it so it can check for updates with the Cloud?

This ^^

I have email/iMessage autofill pop up for entries that have never been in my contact list.

I don't find it a big deal and it comes in handy occasionally.

Actually came in handy for me yesterday. Still... They should fix it.
