Deleted DVD Player...and don't have the CD!

I deleted DVD player a while ago, to free up space (I figured I could just use VLC instead), however VLC doesn't work with real DVDs...it works fine for downloads, but not for real movies bought from a store :S
I've tried downloading dvd player 3 times now, but it closes as soon as I click it..,please help!

VLC DOES work with DVD discs.

Really? On the DVD there are a number of files, though, and so it won't play continuously as a movie...actually, mine's not playing at all. A whole bunch of :errors" come up when i open them with VLC>..

how do i play the whole movie using VLC?

File - Open Disc.. or something like that. Or when you choose open, you can click on Open Disc.

It should be something like that, I'm not sure where you can find it exactly because I'm on a Windows PC at this moment.
