Deleted emails appear in Apple Mail search

I have an annoying problem with Apple Mail on Lion:

The subjects of emails that have been deleted appear when using Mail's search function.
Is there a way to clear Mail's cache?

Hi,

Trash has been emptied.
When I actually select one of the old emails in the search results, Mail doesn't display the email.
