Deleted Emails Re-Appear.

I am using an iMac Catalina desktop computer with Mail. Similar post to others. When I highlight and delete an email, it stays there but the highlight moves to the next email down. Then if I move back up to the original email, I can then delete it.

Anyone any idea how I can put this right please.
