Hi Folks,

I've been trying to solve this one for 2 days and still going nowhere.

I am using external firewire 1.5 TB HDD. Besides TM backup there are other files there too. I was trying to free up some space and entered TM Backup, chose a folder within Pictures folder (30 GB or so) and I clicked "Delete all backups of" the item.

When I got back to my computer later on I realised that it somehow deleted EVERYTHING under Machintosh HD folder. There is NO backup whatoever. Something like 450 GB of entire disk backup is gone. Finder reports this amount of space as free space on this HDD.

The thing is that I was not backing up files from my working HDD for months and TM was turned off. However, along the time I have deleted a lot of stuff from my working HDD knowing I have the files backed up.

I tried several data recovery programs but all of them rename files and group them in categories which makes any sensible structure recovery manual and thus almost impossible. I tried Disk Warrior which reported no problems with the drive (as expected).

So, I presume the backup is still present at the drive but all references and especially TM folder structure is either hidden or lost. Is there any way to recover these files as they were?

Thank you all!
