Deleted Photos apearing in Photos > Places

After multiple failed iCloud restores (and then finally a semi-successful one) I've been left with no photos in my camera roll (which is fine because I have all my pics backed up) but in the Places tab in the Photos app there are 600+ blank thumbnails dotted around the world (where my pics used to be). Is there anyway of clearing the Places thumbnails so I can start afresh?
