Sound like your taptic motor has simply come loose.

Mine does not. The vibration in the haptic engine is barley audible on my 6S. Maybe a bad motor. Take it back to Apple if its new.
If you hold it up to your ear and repeat, can you hear it like a 'hitting' sound? Sort of like it's hitting something inside? Such a shame I have to take this phone back because it's the only one I've seen so far with a perfectly even screen and backlighting
Well of course if I hold it up to my ear I can hear it. Its certainly not loud though.
Yep! I recently upgraded to a 6S Plus from a 6s, the taptic engine makes a really strange (loud) sound depending on how the phone is positioned. E.g. if I hold it upside down, the sound becomes louder, like something is loose somewhere.

Holding the iPhone up to your ear and shaking them to hear if the camera rattles.

Take a jewelers loupe and look for scratches or dust in farthest corner at the top 1/100th of the screen.
There is this wonderful thing on the phone its called the App store, go download some apps and use the damn thing as it's intended.

It could be you are sound sensitive as the new haptic engine is great and I can not be live you happen to run into other defective units. The older vibrating engines were the worst. The new taptic motors are near silent in comparison.

I had a defective vibrate motor in my replacement 6S plus. It's hard to explain how it sounded but it was really loud rather than a quiet tap that I was used to.
I scheduled another appointment with Apple and they gave me a new phone again. Now it's all good.

You will only hear about people having issues, people rarely talk about their perfect phones.
Also.. 78 million iPhones sold last q. A few defects and QC is an all time low how?
Don't take this the wrong way but I think your question was answered multiple times already.
Go to the Apple Store and get it swapped. Since you just bought it, if you have a difficult employee who won't let you swap it then return it and buy another one. They should be good with exchanging though if you bought it wishing the last 2 weeks.
The Taptic Engine should be pretty quiet and it's the best vibration motor Apple has ever put in a device, afaic. Every now and then people get defective parts in their phones. It happens. It's why Apple has a good warranty and exchange policy.
You were just unlucky. I'm sorry to hear that but continuing to vent and complain about it on an Internet forum won't help it get fixed and ultimately won't solve your issue.
