This is a dumb question, but something I've never done before. I created a short cut (alias, sorry) to a folder on my desktop. I want to delete it now. Dragging that icon to the trash will just delete the alias, and not affect the original folder, correct? I want to make sure before I do something I regret.

Deleting Aliases

You are correct, deleting the alias affects only the alias, not the application. The same goes for deleting icons from the Dock: the original app is untouched.
