I bought a 2TB external HD and have been using it with TM. Recently my Mac HD crashed and I got it replaced. I've got about 1.5TB of old files on the external hard drive that TM created. Basically, what I'd like to do is take the last folder created before the crash and maybe one folder per month of the previous months and keep those and delete everything else.

When I try to delete some files I get a message that says, "The operation can't be completed because backup items can't be modified." (Which drives me nuts because I own everything and should be able to do what ever I want.)

Also, sometimes I'll hit "Get Info" on a backup folder it will show that it's 150GB, then when I delete it, I only gain 25GB. I called Apple and the guy seemed clueless as to why that would happen.

One more bit of info...When I got my HD replaced I didn't run Time Machine because I didn't want all the old stuff back on my computer, I just want to be able to access it if I need it.
