Deleting bookmarks in Safari, MacBook Pro

I've followed the usual instructions for deleting bookmarks but they keep showing up again every time I bring up Safari again. I've shut down the computer and reinstalled Safari without resolution of the problem. My OS is OS 10.6. Thanks

Try deleting the bookmarks plist from Mac HD/Users/user/Library/Safari
